Unlicensed cancer, diabetes medicine worth 6.6 crores seized in Kolkata
Abhishek Banerjee, Member of Parliament for Diamond Harbour and General Secretary of Trinamool Congress, has launched a 75-day healthcare initiative named ‘Sebashray’ that will begin on January 2. The program aims to provide free healthcare services across all seven assembly constituencies in the Diamond Harbour Lok Sabha constituency, with the first phase of the initiative running from January 2 to January 11. The launch event will take place at the SDO Grounds in Diamond Harbour, and Banerjee will inaugurate the program.
‘Sebashray’ is designed to offer medical services to people in the region, particularly those in remote or underserved areas. The program was conceived after a meeting held in November 2023 at the Amtala auditorium, where Banerjee coordinated with local doctors to discuss ways of improving healthcare services in the constituency. The initiative will feature 40 health camps per day across the seven constituencies, with a focus on providing both general and specialized medical care.
The first phase of the health camps will feature general medicine doctors who will be available for seven days, followed by three days of specialized care from super-specialty doctors. Services at the camps will include blood tests, portable ECGs, hemoglobin tests, dengue screenings, and other diagnostic procedures. Additionally, mobile hospitals will be deployed to reach people in remote locations where medical facilities are limited. Participants must register via an app, ensuring smooth operations and real-time updates about the services provided at each camp.
Over 800 doctors, including general practitioners and specialists, will be involved in the initiative, with at least two specialists available at each camp. The program will also have a referral system in place, directing patients with critical conditions to one of 12 government or private hospitals for further treatment. This extensive network aims to address both emergency and preventive healthcare needs, ensuring that essential medical care is accessible to all residents, regardless of their location or economic status.
